On 5 November 2026, Sofia will host the second edition of the international conference “Standards for a Sustainable Future”, dedicated to the role of international standards in sustainable development and their practical application.
The event is organised by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the Association of Sustainability Professionals, the Club 9000 Association, and the Association of Environmental Management Professionals, in partnership with the Bulgarian Institute for Standardization.
The conference will bring together representatives from business, institutions, academia, and the expert community to discuss current trends in standardisation, developments in sustainable management practices, and opportunities to apply international standards across different sectors.
The inaugural edition in 2025 attracted more than 170 participants and launched a professional dialogue on the role of standards as a tool for sustainable development. The programme featured four thematic panels, practical discussions, and two special sessions with representatives of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
A key highlight of this year’s edition will be the presentation of the National Roadmap for the Implementation of International Sustainability Standards 2027–2035, which will be the focus of a dedicated session.
The preliminary conference programme also includes:
- An expert panel addressing current issues in sustainability and standardisation;
- A panel discussion to exchange expert perspectives and good practices;
- A business perspective session presenting companies’ views;
- Practical thematic workshops.
The conference aims to encourage dialogue between business, institutions, and academia, support the practical application of international standards, and create opportunities to exchange knowledge and good practices in support of sustainable development.
