EmiCert V  is the Bulgarian representative of ENVIROMETRICS S.A., which has an accredited laboratory in accordance with ΕΝ ISO/IEC 17025:2017. The scope of its accreditation includes a wide range of activities related to on-site measurement and laboratory testing of environmental components.

Industrial emissions are the main cause of air pollution in Europe. Through the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED), the European Union defines the requirements that all industrial facilities must comply with, regarding the prevention and monitoring of atmospheric air pollution.

ENVIROMETRICS owns an accredited ELOT ΕΝ ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory since 2008, providing complete industrial emissions monitoring services, such as periodic measurements of gas emissions related to the requirements of European and National legislation, environmental permits and best available techniques (BAT).

The Industrial Emissions department is staffed by properly trained personnel, composed of engineers and scientists. The adequacy of our staff is regularly checked through their participation in Proficiency Testing schemes and Interlaboratory Comparisons.

Moreover, ENVIROMETRICS’ laboratory implements a continuous training program for its staff.

ENVIROMETRICS uses specialized equipment for sampling and measuring gaseous pollutants and harmful factors according to standard methods (ΕΝ, ISO, EPA, VDI). In addition, it collaborates with accredited laboratories in Greece and abroad for the chemical analysis of the collected samples.

Verification and Quality Assurance of Installed Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS in accordance with the requirements of EN 14181

Installations that continuously monitor exhaust gases must periodically verify that automatic measurement systems (AMS / CEM) are working properly. The quality assurance procedures needed to assure that automated measuring systems (AMS) installed to measure emissions to air can meet the uncertainty requirements on measured values given by legislation are described in European Standard 14181.

There are three quality levels described: QAL1, QAL2/AST and QAL3. These quality assurance levels cover the suitability of an AMS for its measuring task, the validation of the AMS following its installation, and the control of the AMS during its ongoing operation on an industrial plant.

First quality assurance level (QAL1) has to be done by the manufacturer.

Second quality assurance level (QAL2) has to be performed by an independent under ΕΝ ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory. QAL2 is a procedure for the determination of the calibration function and its variability. The QAL2 tests are performed on suitable AMS that have been correctly installed and commissioned. A calibration function is established from the results of a number of parallel measurements performed with the standard reference method (SRM). The Annual Surveillance Test (AST) is a procedure, performed by an independent under ΕΝ ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory which is used to evaluate whether the uncertainty of the measured values obtained from the AMS still meet the uncertainty criteria – as demonstrated in the previous QAL2 test. It also determines whether the calibration function obtained during the previous QAL2 test is still valid.

Third quality assurance level (QAL3) has to be performed by the plant.

ENVIROMETRICS holds an accreditation according to EN 14181 for validating the quality assurance of automated measurement systems (QAL2 & AST).

Environmental noise means unwanted or harmful outdoor sound created by human activities, including noise emitted by means of road, rail, water and air transport, from industrial installations and equipment, and from local sources of noise.

ENVIROMETRICS. holds an accreditation according to ISO 1996-1, ISO 1996-2, EN 61672-1 for environmental noise measurements and ΕΝ ISO 11201, EN 61672-1 for workplace noise measurements and implements its projects with certified and calibrated high-precision equipment.

We are the only provider in Bulgaria offering odor measurements in compliance with EN 13725:2003, “Air Quality – Determination of Odor Concentration by Dynamic Olfactometry.”

ON-SITE VISIT AND INSPECTION:
Based on the ΕΝ 16841:2016 standard, certified sniffers perform direct assessments of ambient air to characterize odor exposure within the designated assessment area.

ODOR SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS:
In compliance with ΕΝ 13725:2022 (dynamic olfactometry method), identified odor sources are sampled and analyzed to determine odor concentration in ouE/m³.

ODOR DISPERSION MODELING:
To generate contour maps of odor exposure scenarios, CALPUFF-CALMET modeling systems are applied, using input data such as odor emission levels, meteorological data, topography, building heights, and more.

Following the common pathway of a management system “Plan – Do – Verify – Act”, an OMP delivers a full-scale study from diagnosis to implementation measures, monitoring & control and finally a contingency programme.

Our experience shows that among others, reliable and consistent spatial data is necessary for building a robust odour management system.

Our ΕΝ ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited laboratory of ENVIROMETRICS S.A. delivers high-end sampling and analysis by Dynamic Olfactometry for the determination of odours concentration according to EN 13725:2022. The results obtained from the analysis, the operational data of the unit and the meteorological and topographical data of the area, are used as input data to produce an Odor’s Dispersion Model. Thus, the spatiotemporal distribution of the concentrations of odors emitted by one or more sources is calculated. In this way, the maximum effects, the frequency, and the conditions of occurrence of high concentrations are estimated.

Verification of dispersion modelling is many times strongly recommended either through sample analysis or through field inspection. Our qualified sniffers and specialists provide field inspection services and field measurements to verify or fine-tune the results of a dispersion model throughout the areas of study.

Air Quality Dispersion Modeling

Air dispersion models are computational tools that are used to predict the concentration of air pollutants at selected downwind receptor locations during various timesteps. The models use mathematical formulations to characterize the atmospheric processes that disperse a pollutant emitted by a source by using meteorological and topographical inputs. Dispersion models provide useful insight and delineate affected areas by visualizing plumes on contour maps under multiple scenarios.

Robust, consistent, and accurate data (geophysical data, meteorological data & emission sources’ data) are required to simulate different scenarios.

Reducing the uncertainties & instabilities and increasing the accuracy of simulation models is what we strive for. Our ΕΝ ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory of ENVIROMETRICS S.A. relies on performing emission measurements by ourselves using our specialized personnel, tools & experience.
